Melvin Horton has been a practicing Buddhist since 1987. Beginning his studies in the Japanese Zen tradition. After a meeting with His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 1993, he started on the path of Paramitayana at the request of His Holiness. His studies and meditation focused primarily on Shantideva’s Bodhicaryavatara or The Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life and the Eight Verses for Training the Mind by Geshe Langri Thangpa. Today he practices and utilizes tools from all three vehicles. He volunteers and studies the core scriptures at his local Theravadan temple. Sits Zazen at his favorite Zendo. And helps out the Shantideva Center staff between Dharma classes on the Lam Rim and meditation sessions on emptiness. He is not married.
