We Did It! 

Thank you for helping us exceed our Annual Appeal goal! We were overjoyed to offer 10% of funds to Manica Youth Assembly, an affiliate of Tenzin Ösel’s Global Tree Initiative. A first set of 215 trees have already been planted in Mutare, Zimbabwe – with more tree plantings to come!

With Deepest Gratitude 

Shantideva Center made light offerings by the holy site of the Mahabodhi Stupa in Bodhgaya, India to express our deep appreciation to our Annual Appeal donors.  Lama Zopa Rinpoche also kindly blessed malas for our Annual Appeal benefactors.

May our donors and all beings experience the deepest levels of well-being in 2023, all the way up until enlightenment!  We hope that wisdom and compassion will prevail in all our hearts across the world, and that Shantideva Center may continue to have the opportunity to support your growth and happiness.

This year's Annual Appeal is special. Our goal is $10,000 by December 31, 2022. We will offer 10% of all funds towards sponsoring tree-planting in Zimbabwe, via Tenzin Ösel Hita's Global Tree Initiative!

In addition to protecting our environment, your funds will support Shantideva Center in sharing the Dharma with people all over the world and supporting our precious teachers.

Our Special Gift

We will make special dedications for all donors of the Annual Appeal. Donors $500 and above will receive a mala blessed in Bodhgaya – the seat of Buddha’s enlightenment.

Heal the Planet

We are deeply connected to each other and our environment. To help heal the planet, Shantideva Center will offer 10% of all funds from the Annual Appeal towards the planting of trees in Zimbabwe, via the Manica Youth Assembly.  

This means you will help heal the planet too!

  • MAYA creates communities that values, protects, promotes, and is in active service of the environment. Their planting projects involve the local communities, and especially the youth.
  • Each dollar goes a long way. It costs $3 to plant 1 tree through MAYA. If we meet our Annual Appeal goal, collectively we will plant over 330 trees.

How can we deeply heal ourselves and others? Around 2500 years ago, the Buddha taught us how to break free from all forms of suffering. Through our teachers and community, Shantideva Center preserves and shares this legacy today.

Heal Ourselves & Others

The Buddha is considered the ultimate doctor – healing the root cause of problems. To address our multitude of dispositions, the Buddha manifested in diverse ways to help beings. Shantideva Center aspires to follow in the Buddha’s footsteps by offering a diversity of:

  • Levels: from beginner to advanced
  • Teachers: featuring monastic and lay teachers with different approaches to the Dharma
  • Formats: including teachings, dharma “office hours”, meditations, and pujas
  • Focus Areas: including philosophy, emotional well-being, and practical advice
  • Financial Support: free teachings plus options for people to make offerings at any level
  • Geographical Reach: where people can join from around the world via Zoom
  • Modalities: where people can learn live online, in-person, and via recordings on YouTube

Achieve Prosperity Through Giving

In a world filled with economic, geopolitical and environmental uncertainty, the Buddhist teachings (which we are all encouraged to question and scrutinize) state that only a few things are certain: including the results of karma.

Here is a teaching from Lama Zopa Rinpoche on the benefits of giving to the Dharma and to sentient beings. By practicing generosity with a pure motivation to benefit others, we help ensure that our own temporal and ultimate goals are met. We also enhance our ability to benefit others even more in the future, the peak result being full enlightenment.
