Hybrid Animals in the Tibetan Tradition with Carmen Mensink

Thursday, May 30

In this meditative workshop you will learn to how to draw hybrid animals according to the traditional Tibetan thangka tradition (scroll paintings of Buddhas and Mandalas).

The three most common hybrid creatures are called “The Three Symbols of Victory in the Battle Against Disharmony.”
They consist of the “six traditional enemies” that are paired together in the following way:

  • Garuda & Snow Lion
  • Otter & Fish
  • Crocodile & Sea Snail

In this way three mystical animals are created, symbols of universal love.

In addition to the drawing sessions you will learn everything about the meanings and symbolism of these creatures in Tibetan art.

The workshop is suitable for anyone, including beginners without any drawing experience.
