Another World is Possible:
Green Tara Practice as a Path of Compassion in Action
with Venerable Amy Miller
As we navigate from one global crisis to the next—the COVID-19 pandemic; ongoing wars challenging the international order; natural disasters worsened by the climate emergency—the path may seem littered with confusion, violence, and alienation. Rather than grow dismayed by external experiences that show cruelty and heartlessness, how can we use our vulnerability to effectively channel this energy in a more supportive way?
This beautiful Green Tara practice explores a path of inner transformation by inviting us to be present with our pain, fear, and aversion. It incorporates lamrim meditation on the stages of the path to enlightenment along with the sadhana practice and mantra recitation of Green Tara. By opening our hearts in kindness to ourselves, the potential exists for our external reality to shift more beneficially as well.
Green Tara practice has been used for centuries by people in times of need. The meditation and recitations of the mantra positively affect the subtle forces of the universe that influence everything in our lives. Tara embodies compassion in action; she is ready to step off her seat and into the world to give help where needed. This makes her practice especially appropriate for us in these challenging times. Her special quality is bodhicitta: the attitude to develop oneself in order to benefit all beings. Green Tara practice offers the strength, resilience, and inner joy to tackle life’s challenges and be a positive influence in our world. Open to all levels.
