The purpose of this series is to give an initial taste of the sophisticated line of inquiry underpinning one of the most central tenets of Buddhist thought and practice and to discuss how we might use the same methods used in the ancient Buddhist texts for answering modern questions not directly addressed in ancient times.
This short course is a part of the FPMT "Buddhist Mind Science: Activating Your Potential" series that focuses on meditation and the mind to provide insight and practical techniques on meditation, the mechanisms of suffering and happiness, finding mental balance, and how to discover and develop our potential for compassion and wisdom. The presentation is in harmony with a comparative modern scientific perspective.
In this module, we will look at what the mind is and how it works, presented in both Buddhism and science. We will explore the different ways to distinguish and classify various kinds of consciousness; and investigate how to reduce destructive states of mind, and generate the constructive ones which can lead us on the path to enlightenment.
