What do you do to support Shantideva Center?

I’m a part of the Spiritual Programming Committee, particularly focusing on the volunteer and community-building aspects. Since I live near the center, I also help with in-person events whenever possible.

What do you do professionally and/or as a hobby?

Professionally (and as a hobby!), I practice acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine at the Yinova Center. I also love yoga, dance, picnics, and fermentation

Why do you offer service?

Hmm, I never thought about why! Serving in Dharma instills such a deep sense of ease, comfort, and gratitude, and allows for invaluable connections with precious teachers and students alike. Just thinking about it makes me smile 🙂

How has Shantideva Center benefited your life?

Shantideva Center was my ‘formal’ introduction to Tibetan Buddhism. After 10 years of practicing Vipassana meditation and sponsoring a Sakya Monastery in Nepal, it felt like the right time to explore Tibetan Buddhism more deeply. Then (due to some past karma), upon arriving in NYC last year, I happened to move right near Shantideva Center. And the rest is history. I began attending almost every in-person teaching and have been increasingly awed by the phenomenal teachers that grace our doorstep. Seriously awed.
Shantideva Center has opened up this whole world to me, and my experience here has deepened not only my meditation practice, but also my overall engagement in life.

What are other volunteers like at Shantideva Center?

Gracious, sincere, humble, diligent, and, of course, fun. I didn’t know how much goes into planning all the programs until I joined the SPC. They make it seem so effortless.
