Metta Meditation
Discovering (Self) Compassion
with Kimberly Brown
When practicing loving-kindness, it’s best to start wherever you are, close to yourself. In that way it’s realistic.
Lama Yeshe
Though compassion is often confused with putting others’ welfare above our own, real wisdom understands that genuine self-concern is a necessary foundation for kindness and compassion toward all beings. In this meditation, we’ll look at the difference between self-compassion and self-indulgence, transform emotional barriers and resistance, and practice responding to self-judgment and criticism with understanding and patience.
This program is open to everyone and beginners are welcome. No experience with meditation is necessary.
New Year Intention Setting Ceremony
Thu Jan 9, 2025, 7:30-9pm
Join Kim at Shantideva Center in-person and online, for a special evening to uncover your truest motivations, clarify and set an intention of the heart, and learn to support it through 2025 and beyond with self-compassion and wisdom.
Instead of trying to use self-criticism and force to achieve goals, you’ll learn to support your deepest wishes with encouragement and love. You’ll be led in meditation to ground and clarify your mind and contemplate your aspirations, and Kim will guide a powerful visualization to deeply root your intention in your body and heart. We’ll close the ceremony by offering blessings and sharing our merit with all beings everywhere.
Everyone is welcome at this auspicious event. No experience with meditation or Buddhism is necessary, your good heart is all you need.
