Fri: Ultimate Healing: Introduction to Retreat

Discover how the healing practice of Medicine Buddha and the Buddha’s profound teachings on the Four Seals of the Dharma work together to reveal the causes of suffering and the path to lasting peace. This introductory talk offers an accessible overview of the weekend retreat and includes guided meditation, reflection, and time for questions. Open to everyone—whether you are new to Buddhism or an experienced practitioner.

Sat-Sun: Ultimate Healing: Medicine Buddha Retreat

In this retreat, we unite the healing practice of Medicine Buddha with some contemplation on the Four Seals of the Dharma — the essential insights that define authentic Buddhist wisdom.

Medicine Buddha represents awakened healing: the purification of body, speech, and mind, and the compassionate wish that all beings be free from suffering. Yet true healing goes beyond temporary relief. It comes from seeing reality clearly.

The Four Seals — first taught by Shakyamuni Buddha — guide that vision:

All conditioned phenomena are impermanent.

All contaminated phenomena are unsatisfactory.

All phenomena are empty and selfless.

Nirvana is peace.

Just as a skilled physician diagnoses illness and prescribes the cure, the Buddha revealed the deeper causes of suffering and the path to lasting freedom. In this retreat, mantra recitation, visualization, and meditation on Medicine Buddha become a powerful support for realizing these truths in our own experience.

When wisdom and compassion unite, healing becomes complete.

This retreat invites you not only to seek relief from pain, but to awaken the medicine of clear seeing — the healing that frees the heart at its very root.

Ven. Angie has recently taught at the center The Magic of Masters: Walking the Three Principles of the Path Through Living Examples via online and this will be her first time in-person at Shantideva Center. About the Teacher

Born in Scotland in 1970, Venerable Angie obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in 1992. Disillusioned with her prospective career path, she left Scotland and spent three years traveling and working in Asia. In 1995, she felt called to India to explore meditation and seek her life path.

Within a few months, she discovered Tibetan Buddhism, met her main spiritual teacher, Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche, and became ordained. For nearly 30 years, she has followed Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s wishes, serving at his personal residences in the US for over 13 years, working at FPMT centers such as Vajrapani Institute and Thubten Norbu Ling, and undertaking personal retreats. She also spent several years in Scotland, teaching and leading meditation retreats.

In 2023, after Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s passing, Venerable Angie was invited to Vajrapani Institute in California, where she now serves as teacher in residence. She currently teaches the FPMT program Discovering Buddhism and offers classes, meditations, and retreats at other centers in North America.

Venerable Angie has a deep love of ritual and helps students integrate mantra and ritual into daily practice. She regularly offers online pujas to enhance positive energy and clear obstacles, and has helped lead pilgrimages to Lawudo Retreat Center in Nepal. She plans to lead more pilgrimages in the future to help others experience the transformative power of sacred places. To learn more about Ven.
