Discovering Buddhism

Death and Rebirth

In this module, we will explore the process of death and rebirth and its impact on how we live our lives. We will see how the Buddha’s teachings can guide us in skillful reflection on the meaning of death and what to expect when it comes. In this way, we will learn to fulfill our purpose in life, resolve conflicts, and develop the skills to help both ourselves and others at the time of death.

We will investigate such questions as:

  • How can we use the practice of remembering death as a method to stop delusions?
  • What are the different stages of the death process?
  • What determines the kind of rebirth we will have?

This is the fifth in a series of 14 modules covering the complete Buddhist path to enlightenment. Students may join at any point in the cycle. Discovering Buddhism is designed for students who wish to deepen their understanding of fundamental Buddhist concepts. The program is designed to provide an experiential taste of the Buddha’s teachings and the skills we need to make our lives most meaningful. Each module includes teachings, meditations, readings, assessment questions, and a short retreat. For more information on the Discovering Buddhism program, please click here.
